Narrative version of the resume

Standard resume is an effective way of presenting the potential employee's skills in a legible form. However, this form of resume has certain limitations to it. The biggest limitation of a uniform resume is lack of space for unique information and skills of a potential candidate. Because of this reasons, I decided to add short article, specifically targeted to highlighting my special skills and presenting detailed information about my career as a graphic designer.

One of the important highlights on the nature of my skills is the fact that my knowledge comes from the practical experience, comparing to the most of my colleagues on the market. My skills as a designer are based on the actual working for fare ten years in the industry, as well as view of the production process from the inside.

Versatility is another specialty of my skills. Besides practical nature of my experience. I was working as a designer for big corporations, contemporary agencies and small traditional companies. My responsibilities were connected to print and ad production, book produce, pre-press preparation and Internet based projects, from a small presentation websites to full-sized yellow pages online. DUe to the different nature of the companies, I was working for, there were a different functions I was performing. I was working as a part of a team and as a manager of a department, in some cases I was consulting on the main direction and style of the design and in different situations I was taking a responsibility for a project from the beginning to the end.

Self-employment is an important part of my working experience. Because if it, I had a chance to take a snapshot of the graphic design from a different angle. Working as a freelancer helped me to develop communication skills, and better understanding of client's needs, as well as relation of specific task to it's general goal. Also it sharpened my knowledge of industry's business side.

My interests in life go far beyond my main profession and some of them helping me much in developing the effective designs and advertising concepts. Before I started to work as a designer, I was planning to become a journalist. I had few publications in the local and citywide newspapers. This experience was very helpful in understanding and developing the designs and concepts for mass media, such as newspapers, magazines, ets. I believe that the development of contemporary and effective styles and concepts for the advertising materials is virtually impossible without the knowledge of marketing and psychology. I am continually expanding my knowledge and understanding of this fields, and implementing this knowledge in my designs. Due to my overseas origin, my clientele shows the diversity of different cultures. During the past ten years, I was working with clients from Italian, Japanese, Jewish, Polish, Russian and other communities and was learning and understanding the specialties and the specific needs of these groups.

Besides the general highlights, which, I believe, can be important and helpful for every position, there are the specific skills, related to special fields of graphic design. For instance, talking about my pre-press skills, I can discuss the experience of putting together and preparing for a print house the 1,200 pages directory in three different versions (for New York, New Jersey and Florida).
